I need to remove my starter fr

I need to remove my starter from the port engine to have it rebuilt. Trouble getting the top nut off. It is holding a bracket to which the 50 amp circuit breaker is mounted. The bracket blocks access to the nut. Also the nut is very close to the starter body and there is not enough room between the nut and starter body to get a socket or box end socket on it.

Any ideas?

Well finally I asked a profess

Well finally I asked a professional mechanic to help with the removal. He simply bent the bracket holding the circuit breaker which gave access to the nut. He used an open end 5/8 inch wrench to remove the nut. It took 15 minutes and $65 of labor. I am in the wrong line of work.
 
I use to work with an old mech

I use to work with an old mechanic who had been in the trade for over 50 years. I was working on an engine one day and said if I had an 1/2 wrench bent at a right angle this would be a lot easier. He walked over to his box opened the draw and pulled one out. It's hard to put a price on experience. I have one in my box now.

"Me too, Brian. I have a set of cheapo combo wrenches that I ground thin to go around the nuts on the old Chrysler manifolds. I also notch them out on each side to be able to swing the wrench further. Makes a world of difference.

Speaking of trick wrenches, Sears sells 6 point (vs. the usual 12 point) box wrenches for those rusty, stubborn nuts and bolts. If a socket won't fit, these are your best option.

i originaly had the same problem i also bent the bracket to get at the nut then i took a junker wrench and ground, bent, formed ,and shaped till it worked next time no sweat."
