"I just bought a used Tollycra

"I just bought a used Tollycraft 28' cruiser. It has 1988 model crusader 305s installed. I cruised with it on a couple of short cruises (everything fine)then I took it on the 110 mile cruise to my home port. About three miles from home (after crusing over 100 miles at 3000 rpm) I heard a pop and when investigating discovered that all of the oil from starboard engine was in the bilge. Shut down the starboard engine right away. I think it was a hose from the remote filter. This just happened and have not traced the hoses under the engine yet. Just thought I would run this by you guys and see if there were any other possibilities.
She was running a little rich, but other than that I was impressed with the performance.
Thanks for your help."

"That's a really great boat! (We looked into a 30 footer really seriously.)

Your experience is the problem with remote filters (and why I don't recommend them). I assume these are Chevies and located such that they're hell to get to. The filter on Chevies is on the left rear side of the block. You'll have to crawl in there and start replacing from there.

Good luck! And be sure to change ALL the hoses, 'cause if one broke.... Use only quality oil safe hose from an hydraulic fittings and hoses dealer (like Parker).

"Interesting coincidence. My p

"Interesting coincidence. My port engine (1994 350 XL Crusader) filled the bilge with oil last weekend. After much scratching and crawling and twisting, located leak from where remote oil filter assembly attaches to block (lower level). Because of difficulty getting to space, cannot yet see what is problem but suspect either blown assembly gasket, cracked assembly head, or loose connection. Am reasonably sure not from one of hoses."

Good luck to both of you! I h

Good luck to both of you! I hope you have a good cyropractor on speed dial!
