"Bill I am curious, are you opening the pistons to replace the o-rings? If so where did you find the o-rings? I searched a few years back without any luck."

Logic would suggest that an OEM kit would be available, but to my knowledge, Volvo does not offer a kit for these, therefor no OEM tool for the user.
If you were to search extensively, you may find seals and O-rings that may work.

Components:
The entire unit is a cylinder or ram cylinder.
Two ends are base end/stem end housings.
Cylinder would be the aluminum tube...(cylinder)
Rod is the steel shaft or stem.
Piston ... the portion attached to the base end of the stem.

Note that a cylinder that may be in need of a kit, may also have a worn "bore" in the stem end aluminum housing. If so, a new seal here may shortly fail.
Again, no replacement for this "stem end housing" part.

I do know a man who has done this research and now has access to non-OEM replacement parts! If interested, I could put you in touch with him.
