I have a freind that removed

I have a freind that removed the philips scew next to the lower gear case lube hole in a 11/97 manufacture date 25 evinrude. what would the best way to reasemble this

" I believe that should be the pin for the shift fork. The easiest way is to have all the gearlube drained with the lower unit removed from the motor. This way you can operate the shiftrod, by hand, to align the hole in the shift fork with the gearcase. You might need an awl to help in the alignment. "

"In addition to Marci's reply which is on target, you might also try inverting the engine with the gearcase attached. You might just be lucky enough to have that shift lever align so that you can reinstall the shift pivot pin.
