2002 8.1HO-Trouble Starting after Shallows Stall-Not Going to believe the fix

I was coming into Baltimore Yatch Club at idle and ran up on a shallow shoal that didn't stop me but I kicked up some mud and heard a couple prop knocks like wood, not like rocks or concrete. My Port engine stalled. I was able to motor out into open water and it would not start, got into the marine on one engine and left it alone for the night.

Next morning got up, checked fluid levels, tried to start it and it turns over fine but wouldn't start. I think the breaker by the ECM was tripped, it did click when I pushed it in, tried starting, it wouldn't. Checked for fuel on the injector rail at release valve and did get any. Disconnected Fuel Cell pump and tested and got 12vdc when trying to start, all good. Went on to Primary Fuel pump, DISCONNECTED it and tested for voltage when trying to start and IT STARTED, yes WHILE DISCONNECTED! Shut it back down, reconnected, and it starts now with no issues just like prior to stall.

Would love to know why it could start how I had it!

Maybe this can help someone else.

Anyone have a clue how an engine can start with the low pressure fuel pump disconnected?

Only thing I could come up with is too much pressure on the fuel cell supply would not allow pump to move, removing pressure allowed it to and fixed my issue?

When diesel engines stall and not shut down by cutting the supply of fuel to the pump, it creates a back pressure through the pump, this pressure has to be released to allow the valves to reopen and enable fuel to flow back into the pump. by shutting off your pump enabled the valve to re open so the fuel can enter the train. Once it does the engine will run as before. Diesel engines hate stalling as they tend to kick into reverse for a second which has the reverse effect on the fuel pump.
Hope this enlightens you>
