2000 Johnson 50hp VRO fuel pump

I have a 2000 Johnson 50hp with the VRO fuel pump on it and it has gone out. I was told that a common fix for this is to change over to a standard fuel pump and premix your oil/gas seeing that the replacement pump runs about $300-400. I have the old pump off and able to do the work, just looking for someone that is familiar with this that can tell me what i need and what i need to do. Let me know if i need to provide any more information.

Repair kits are available for the VRO pump.---Yes they are.-------------The easy fix however is to install a pump from a pre VRO model ( 1983 or so ) or from a 48 special model.-------------The spot to mount the pump is already there on the block.---------A bit of work routing hoses and should be less than $ 100.00 or so. Even cheaper if you find a used old style pump and install a repair kit.
