"I have a 1996 Mariner with only 150 hrs. Recently the overheat warning light at the helm started glowing. Now, after running it glows bright and the engine slows down. I've replaced the water pump, thermostats, and the temp sensor with no results. Any ideas?"

"Brian,

Until you solve this problem I would advise you not to use the engine very much, if at all.

Did you check the cooling system while you had the lower unit off? It sounds like there is either a clog or a leak somewhere.

It is a good idea to connect a water hose to the water tube while the lower unit is off to see if water will flow through the block, or if it seems to end up in the wrong places. You can even start the engine like this.

The pressure relief valve may be stuck, preventing flow at certain times.

Tony"
