"I was on plane 4800 rpm when the motor stumbled a bit, 3 seconds later it quits outright. Can't start it. check fuel for water etc. Sound like not spark so we cover her up and get a tow.

In the driveway I check for spark using a single spark tester on each of the 4 wires - Nothing.
Pulled the black yellow wire of the back of my keyswitch still no spark.
Pulled the 2 yellow from the regulator to power pak to stator - nothing.
Charge coil test
- pulled to plug from the stator to pak - meter set to 500v red probe to brown wire going to stator black probe to ground reads 1 on vac 0 on vdc same on brown yellow lead.
- output test while probing brown and brown/yellow shows ~130v That's low
- resistance test I get 1080 ohms across the brown and brown/yellow - no continuity from either brown lead to ground.

The motor is a 60degree looper with optical ignition. I think the stator may be fried, just looking for some advice from more experience folks on the board. I read on this board that the optical timing sensor was the issue for another boater. Tried to get to it and I'm having a problem removing the timing wheel, took the bolt out but the wheel just won't come free. I don't want to damage it, any tricks to pulling the timing wheel? This is not the fly wheel it's just a wheel about 6inch diameter with timing marks on it.
I'm going to test the power pack but need to pick up a resistor? I'll post results.
I know it's a really long message, thanks for reading."

"My 90 didn't stop while c

"My 90 didn't stop while cruising, but it is starting to cut out some (again) and stranded me once when I pulled anchor and hoped to head in. I replaced the stator w/ a spare I had and have run it a few times w/out an issue until yesterday. I just ordered a new stator. Not 100% sure it's the issue, but I already have a new reg/rec and don't want to trust it to another used 10yr old stator. Might be your problem too.

As for timing wheel, I ended up breaking mine. Didn't mean to, but it was 10yrs old, fragile and practically seized on. It was tough getting the metal center off even once the wheel was broken off, so good luck. I lightly sanded the crank afterwards and put a little grease on it before I put the new wheel on. Slid on/off real nice after that."
