I have an 1985 merc 150 hp ob.

I have an 1985 merc 150 hp ob. cant get a spark in the number 1 cylinder all others fire fine. switched coils with another cylinder and still no spark. does this mean it has to be in the switch boxes. can a bad stator or trigger make you lose spark to just 1 cylinder. I was told that i nedded to replace the stator and swith box cause the stator can take out the box. any help needed please

Try to exclude the possibility

Try to exclude the possibility of faulty triggers by switching the triggers just like you did for the coils. Also check wiring. Then switch box.

"same thing happened on my 198

"same thing happened on my 1985 3 cylinder 60HP just this past weekend. I used a volt meter, Fist I checked for continuity, then had a buddy turn over the engine a couple seconds and was able to get a voltage reading.

Isolated the switchbox as the problem.

I bought a used switchbox for $75 at Phila. boat supply(had 2 in stock). Problem solved!!"
