"I have a 1978 Mercury on a Del Magic deck boat. I went to take it out last night and the steering locked up on me. When I turn the wheel, I get rock solid resistance at 6 inches either direction.

Could this be a lubrication problem or a steering wire issue? Never had this problem before."

"If mechanical steering (most likely) sounds like you have seized a cable. If so it's well past the point where lube will fix it, will probably require replacement.."
