"Hey guys...any help or suggestion would be great. I've had a '76 85hp Johnson for about 12 years and haven't done any maintenance...ever...other than changing the gear lube yearly and spark plugs once. Since I work on cars all day, I'm big on preventative maintenance and I'd like to apply that to my outboard as well. I remember hearing from a marine mechanic to have the h20 pump looked at because there's no way to tell what condition it's in. Is there any way to check the integrity of the pump and t-stat? I read somewhere that some motors have a horn that sounds when the engine gets too hot. (What is the normal operating temp?) Is there an obvious object or wire to look for to see if my engine is equipped with that feature? My engine model number is 85EL76G. Thanks, Tom"
