" Joe/Anyone,
I have installed a OMC Turbojet into a boat and changed the powerhead from a 115hp V4 to a 200hp V6. The install went fine but I am have problems cooling. I removed both the thermostats in the top of the cylinder heads and in the bottom of the mounting place for the motor to the jet assembly. I get cooling water into the powerhead it just never is comes out. What if I was to remover the pressure lease valves and replace the thermostats in the powerhead? I could tap the themostat covers and use that water to cool the muffler on the jet. This would be very close to the way that OMC acquired water to cool the muffler on the V4. In doing this would it allow water to flow completly throught that powerhead and allow for cooling? My thought is to use 5/16 fittings tapped and threaded into the pressure release hole on the thermostat cover. What do the pressure release valves do? On a side note, yes I checked that the thermostats are opening at about 145-155 degrees
Any help with this project would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Greg "

" Greg.... I'm not into co

" Greg.... I'm not into conversions and have no idea why you're having that problem. The pressure relief valves are just that.... they open under pressure to provide extra cooling. If the engine was still cool and the engine rpm was increased drastically, the water pressure would open those valve, allowing extra water to cool the engine. The same holds true even when the thermostats are open at a high rpm.

" Joe,
Thanks for your fast r

" Joe,
Thanks for your fast response. I removed the water pressure valves and the engine is cooling correctly. I am going to reinstall the thermostats and see what happens. Do you know af any dealers that have alot of experiance with the 115 OMC Turbojet package? Most dealers in my area(Detroit, Michigan) don't even carry parts books for them. When I call they say "Sorry we can't help you". It is very frustrating when you purchase a product like this and OMC/Bombardier has not local support. I am not asking for support on the V6 conversion, but looking for support on the jet pump. "

Hello Greg. hopefully I can get your answer still being so long since your post. but I'm curious how your conversion has held up and if you were happy with it? I figure if I am going to do something I had better go bigger before I start cutting and welding lol. thanks In advance

Your best option is to start a new thread with your engine model # and specific details of what you're attempting. This thread was 21 years ago and likelihood that Greg is still posting is very slim. Also, Joe Reeves has not been active for a long time.

Problem is you cannot get a larger pitch impeller for the added HP and exhaust is restrictive. Not that it cannot be done as machine shops accept $$$ all day long for projects. If you want more HP sell want ya got and buy a boat with the Merc 240EFI

it's not that I'm desperate for a fix. just want to know how it ended up working for him. totally agree it has been years. but for him to not post anything else for that time it makes me wonder.... the excitement of having what no one else does and being told it will never work just tickle's.... a cousin of mine and myself ditched a turbojunker and put a merc 4.3L out of a big fun country mi-yacht with a berk jet from an old witchcraft that had a 455 powering it in place of the tiny 115 and wow! was a great mod and spooky fast
