1969 Mercruiser Drive Shift Problem

When i shift into drive it will work for a little bit then it will lose power and i will hear a screech noise like metal on metal not a grinding but it almost sounds like a when a train stops but lower pitch.. There is no problem with reverse.. The prop is a little bit loose.. Could it be the prop or maybe the lower unit? Let me know what you think please and thank you

you over heating also when this happens.

First try a different prop. Problem still there then might be the coupler.

Thats why i askled about the overheat cause if the coupler goes the the raw water pump is not going to turn.

Did you check the gear oil in the drive?

I havent taken anythin apart on the lower unit yet im going to take it apart today and give you guys an update
