1968 johnson 20hp

i'm a novice. Bought a 20 hp Johnson (1968) in good condition, took it to a marine shop. They said it was in great shape, started on second pull. Got it in the water and had a hard time starting it. When it finally did start, it died after a minute or so. It sputtered a few more times and finally stopped doing anything. Where do i start?

Got the fuel line hooked up ?? When you pump the primer bulb does it get hard ??
