How do you disconect the shift rod to drop the lower unit?

Remove the powerhead, then remove the two 3/8" retaining nuts from the long shift rod.

You have to pull the power head off.---------------Not to hard to do.------Also a good opportunity to do work on the lower crankshaft mechanical seal that you find on the end of the driveshaft.
