I sometimes have a hard time with cold starts on this engine. After it starts for the day I am usually good for the rest of the day. From a cold start I usually advance the throttle fully twice then go to about 1/4 and start to crank. Someone said I should turn the ignition WHILE advancing the throttle. If I understood correctly he meant to slowly advance while cranking. Any help?

start by adjusting the choke with a cold engine.

To rapidly move the throttle position to have the accel pump squirt gas into the carb "tickling it"

Hah! You're probably one o what I call the "Fuel Injection Generation" who never ran a carb vehicle before.

I once wrote an article on this for the 'Nor'estern' boating magazine (though it wasn't printed).

A Carburetor, i.e., a BEFI engine ( Bernoulli Effect Fuel Induction)... everything has to have an acronym these days :) Don't want those of us with non MPI, non TBI engines to feel left out of the discourse.
