1994 350 mag. installed new thermostat 140 marine 1st time out temp ran at 140 max. 2nd time out temp ran at 125 max?????

Why a 140 T'stat? Most RWC engines are specced for a 160; and FWC at 170.

Any ideas why they messed with the temp range on the thermostats?

Were the 140's too cold?
 
"I believe at the lower temper

"I believe at the lower temperatures, fuel injected engines tend to knock quite a bit.
<160 for RWC is necessitated by the lack of a pressurized cooling system, to prevent localized boiling in the water jacket.
For FWC, the pressurized system surpresses boiling and allows the engine to run at the more effiecient, higher temperatures."
