Water in lower unit. Is this a total rebuild?

I put the boat in the water today and when in gear I heard a slight clanging nose. Pulled the plug on the lower unit to discover about 10 oz. of water and gray oil with very little metal shavings. Do I need to a total rebuild? Can I do it myself?:confused:

Another secret motor !-----------It will need a complete tear down, not hard to do.-------------There may be lots of wear if it has been run hard.--------Price of new parts will quickly add up to the cost of a good used unit.---------Special tools / techniques may be needed to shim new gears and bearings.
