    1975 Evinrude 40 hp will not slow down

    I have a 1975 Evinrude 40 hp I bought and everything is fine except when I rev up the speed and then try to turn the speed back down it stays running at the fast speed. If I give the butterfly a quick couple of pushes it will return? Any ideas? Possibly the slow speed mixture to high? Any help...
