    Noisy lower unit gears

    I just paid my local marine mechanic to transfer the gearset from a mercruiser lower unit that had a crack in it to pristine lower unit I had purchased. I have not filled it with oil yet and have not installed the water pump. When I spin the input shaft the gears sound like they are not meshing...
