    1979 70hp wont go into gear after rebuilding water pump

    I removed the lower unit to rebuild the water pump and have reinstalled it. But now I cant get it to go into forward or reverse. I didn't mark the shift rod before I removed :o but I thought I made sure it was in neutral when I installed lower unit. ANy ideas? Thank you
