    Remote idle adjustor

How would you adjust it for best performance/avoiding too lean and what is the maximum elevation you go to? Do you have a manual for this engine? I would find one and keep a copy of the info for setting the air/fuel mixture at high altitude. You could also rig a choke cable and fabricate a...

Mercruiser 350 Mag MPI broken plastic drain plug. Next steps.....

IMO, seeing things in a bilge is overrated. I feel around and if it doesn't want to go after about 1/2 turn, I remove it and get it right. That's how I learned to hate the blue plugs.......:)

Question. Suzuki Trim gauge on a Merc

How much of a difference is there in the trim gauge? Is it higher, or lower than the original one? WRT tank senders- true, although I have seen some that weren't in the same range. WRT tach, if it's not using injection/ECM, the gray wire and the adjustment on the back of the gauge lets it work...

Question. Suzuki Trim gauge on a Merc

If you're spending this much for a new 150HP Mercury, why are you trying to 'make do' with the gauges? I wouldn't expect a Mercury OB that uses their proprietary system to work with other brands.

    Zincs for Aluminum Boat

The stuff that makes bottom paint necessary doesn't care about your budget, it's all gonna do what it's gonna do. Aluminum needs to be etched and it's a good idea to ground the hull before spraying, which creates static electricity. THe wire to the hull from the battery- if it was like a...

Re-painting outdrive & hull with automotive paint?

I was actually kidding, but thinking about it, with the amount of oil and gas that I see on the water in rivers and near the marinas, I'm not sure how long wax would last, being oil suluable. The cure time is a big reason 2K paint is used.

    Zincs for Aluminum Boat

If someone looks at a stern drive or outboard, they'll see thin wires connecting the separate parts- they're called 'continuity wires' because if they aren't used, the pieces will be electrically insulated to some degree that would make anodes at the far end (lower gearcase) useless. Some...

Re-painting outdrive & hull with automotive paint?

So, are you gonna wax it?

    Zincs for Aluminum Boat

What did you expect the Goof Off to remove? That stuff is for removing solvent-based materials, not organic or electrolytic deposits. Sand them in an open space, while wearing a good dust mask. As posted, you need bare metal on all surfaces.

Mercruiser 350 Mag MPI broken plastic drain plug. Next steps.....

Should we start a thread to post service tips & tricks, like using a piece of 1/4" hose with a slit to to slide onto the ceramic insulator, for removing and installing spark plugs when they're hot and/or hard to reach and they didn't come out with the socket? When space is tight, this is much...

Mercruiser 350 Mag MPI broken plastic drain plug. Next steps.....

As Alldodge posted, remove the adapter, along with the others, then buy the correct size brass plugs. I hate the blue plastic ones with the heat of 1000 suns- they cross-thread easier than anything I have ever touched, they break and if dropped, they're gonna stay where they ended up because I'm...

Boat was not winterized. 2007 MAXUM 1900SR3

I would ask for a quote comparing the cost with a long block, rather than repairing this one. Some suppliers of reman engines include a very good warranty.

Boat was not winterized. 2007 MAXUM 1900SR3

That's the plastic tube that connects to the copper line from the water pocket? Got it. I did't look too closely because I was using my phone. I did see the line for the shutter valve- mine was burnt to a crisp by the previous owner, so I replaced it.

I don't know how they deal with this kind of thing in Canada- have you called your insurance company?

Boat was not winterized. 2007 MAXUM 1900SR3

The invoice shows 'sleeve'- that tells me a cylinder cracked near one of the frost plugs. I had to pull an engine from a Ski Nautique for the same reason, as well as replace head gaskets because they overheated it the first time 9out that year. I wish I had photos of the Ultra Copper basket...

Boat was not winterized. 2007 MAXUM 1900SR3

Where is tax charged by the hour and where is shop rate so low? Here, the lowest shop rate I can think of is around $80/hr. $40/hr may be what they pay a well-trained shop tech.

Boat was not winterized. 2007 MAXUM 1900SR3

I would ask them to explain the items with an X- - Did the exhaust manifolds crack? If so, sure, but they don't hold water. - Why did they need to replace two clamps? Which clamps? - Exhaust manifold gaskets- sure, they're not expensive. - Parts cleaner? Is that part of the environmental...

Seeking manual for indmar 350 efi

The water that enters the hose after the hull fitting could freeze, but the bilge will be closer to the water temperature than air temp, especially if the cover is on the boat. You're use environmentally safe antifreeze, right? If so, you can add it before the cold temperatures- many boats are...
