Anyone using pennzoil marine xlf synthetic on these optimax engines or what about the SuperTech DFI oil? I've searched all prior threads and didn't find any info on using these oils for the optimax. Maybe there is a reason for that?

Thanks in advance

Oil goes in the moving parts in the engine. My understanding on the OPTIMAX engines main difference between it and a normal 2 stroke is that its fuel injected and fuel droplets are very small allowing for more complete combustion. I would think that full synthetic would support this process. The only down side is as reported by folks in salt water areas is that (at least some) dyno oil in the fuel helps to prevent rust and corrosion better than pure synthetic oil....aka "semi-synthetic. Pennzoil semi is the oil I used in my 2 stroke engines for decades.....stocked in WM.

Good points for sure, thanks for your insight.

My reading about these OPTI engines is that these engines tend to run hotter and because of that, the additives in the formula that Merc came up with, assist the engine in dealing with that extra heat. Supposedly, the Penn XLF oil utilizes additives that do the same job as Merc's more expensive DFI oils.

I know it's knit picking but...if I can save a buck or two in this economy, then eventually I can buy more fishing gear! :)
