Tachometer working erratic and then stops

I have a 1992 evinrude 150hp, serial number VJ150EXENC. I recently replaced the power packs, coils, rectifier and stator. Since then my tachometer would work erratic and then stop reading. The needle 0 s out when ignition is switched on. I am trying to find the terminal block I see people talking about on here so I can move the grey wire over to a yellow one but I cannot find that in the engine compartment.
Can someone help me with this?
Would it not be unusual to have purchased a defective part? They all came from marine engine.
I know the rectifier I got no longer uses the purple wire.

Since you replaced the stator & rectifier, I'd guess bad wire, connection or tach. As for the terminal strip, IDK. I don't see any.
The stator yellow output goes to the regulator/rectifier & that is where the gray tach wire picks up its signal. The regulator/rectifier has a gray wire with a bullet connector. That is the tach signal. Start there & check for a good connection & that the wire ISN'T pinched going into the main harness. Be sure you didn't tighten the regulator down & squash the wire.
