Lower Unit Oil 2025 90 SHO

Own a 2025 90 SHO and I'm ready to do my 20hr break in engine oil and lower unit oil change. I've read some conflicting things about utilizing the HD GL-5 lower unit oil as it may eat away at soft metals...ie bronze, brass, etc.

Does the 2025 90 SHO have soft metals in the lower, and is it advantageous to use the HD vs the Standard?

Direct copy and paste from Yamaha regarding the Standard lower oil...."Recommended for all Yamaha outboard engines (except V8, V6 V Max, Sho, and 2010 & Newer V6 Offshore models - Use ACC-GLUBE-HD-00)."

Clearly states recommended in all except the SHO. But when looking at the HD oil it suggest only in the larger SHO high HP models.

This is a head scratcher for sure and I'm hoping some one will perhaps have some more insight or clarity on this.

Owners manual lists both, and I'm nearly certain the Standard is listed first. It's just odd and I'm thinking I'm not the only one...I called Yamaha direct to get some clarity and they couldn't give me a definitive answer. Also spoke with a local Yamaha dealer and he couldn't give me an definitive answer on the soft metals in the lower.

You have a comma between V6 V max and Sho.

It is the V6 V MAX SHO only that requires GL-5 oil. Not all SHO's.

The VF90 models can use either GL-4 or GL-5 oil. Customer option.

Indicating that the gears are of a material type that are compatible with GL-5 oil.

But the loads on the lower HP SHO gears are such that GL-5 oil is not required.
