Gear Oil Leak - What is the Cause

2014 StingRay, 5.7L, Bravo 3 - got a bad leak of gear oil external to stern drive. See photo. Appreciate feedback, never had this problem. I am sure an expert will know what this is all about. Thanks.

Maybe add some contex, your "very light red circle doesnt exactly show a lot so maybe add some info to where to look.
 
Yellow circle, you can see the blue gear oil coming out from what looks like the exhaust circle. Does that help?

Check the transom plate gear lube fitting and hose going to the drive.

No the transom does not use oil.

Since I don't know your serial number, I've picked a generic image. Most likely your boat has the style in the upper left box, fitting #6 and/or hose (#12 is bulk piece used inside & out of boat), the portion shown as "S" shaped buried between bellows & outdrive.

I just went thru an issue (NOT specifically yours) on a Bravo 1 (they use the same components)

Item 1 thru Item 5 In many years were Plastic from the factory. (THEY ARE NOW ALL BRASS if you buy replacements)
The plastic Barb on the end, labeled item 1 is very susceptible to breakage/leakage.
Item 8 barbed fitting on Gimbal housing is what the hose connects to and also may be susceptible to being loose/leakage. This is where the check ball is visible when drive is removed.

Turn steering wheel all the way to the left, go back to drive with good light and look for the hose (item 7) and see if it is wet with gear lube. Gently move it and carefully watch the barb (Item 1) and see if it appears loose/fractured. It is very difficult to see where that hose connects to Item 8 but do what you can to see if it may be loose.
Also check hose itself for cracks/leakage.

The one used on bravo is slightly different so be aware. It uses threaded fitting and nut on the engine side of transom.

The one in the pic usea C/E clips and absolutely sucks to replace!!
 
I think it's fair to say they both suck to replace. Who would have thought a plastic fitting & cheap hose would never fail?

If I recall correctly, some Bravos use the plastic model too.

Yes but it has a threaded end on the inside vs Alpha which uses the clips.
The replacement parts are all brass/bronze so it a one time replacement of the transom parts. The Hose...well the new hose looks good but degrades quickly. Not sure what else to use
