Mercruiser 6.2 MPI Horizon installed 2004 alarm 1 beep after ignition on

Hi all,

I have a 87 Searay 268 that was repowered in 2004 with a Mercruiser 6.2 MPI horizon engine. Ran ok at the end of last year when covered for the season. I live in New England. October to May docks closed. Took covers off and put batteries back in and this year when I turn on ignition switch I can hear the fuel lines pressurize and the normal 1 beep from dash indicating OK, but just after the normal 1 beep is a second beep telling me there is an issue. Engine turns over fine, just won't start.

I checked oil, coolant and gear drive levels and all look OK. Batteries are charged and appear OK.

Anyone have suggestions on what the secondary beep alarm is indicating?

TIA

Possibly you may have a stuck or failed IAC (idle air control valve) …
If you haven’t already, you could try opening the throttle while cranking the engine over to see if it helps get extra airflow into the engine to see if it will start up for you….

Would need your engine serial number to confirm correct design and location for your engine model as they had changed types over the years, the following link of item number 16 would be of one type visual example if needed,

Often it’s best to get the engine scanned for codes by a dealer or someone with a scanner or buy one yourself or another option to maybe help get you headed in a possible direction when the alarm sounds, would be to purchase and connect a smart craft type gauge or mercruiser mobile vessel view that brings up general code information to help lower the guessing game…
mercruiser mobile vessel view would read off of your phone.

Hi Fun Times and Thanks for the reply.

From what I had already read, I purchased a new IAC and plugged in, but not installed. Still getting the extra beep when ignition turned on.

The engine was purchased / installed 5/7/2004. Model number 4R4202HRS with a serial of OM663950. Due to the replacement, not done by me, but dealer with previous owner, there are many wire harnesses that are not used or modified to work in the older boat wiring.

Would the scan tool you sent link to work on this model engine? Is there supposed to be a plug under the dash for it?

I am trying to prep boat for sale and trying not to have a mechanic come out to find the fault. Last time I had tech out he charged $150 / hr.

Thanks again for the help.
