I have a brand new Tohatsu MFS20E EPT-L (2022 model) which is around 5 hours into the break-in procedure.
After I was allowed to run the motor on higher rpms, it would start acting weirdly: when loosening the throttle from high to low, the continuous warning sound and the warning LED turns on. I need to shut the engine off before I can continue driving. According to the owner's manual, this suggests a problem with oil pressure. I checked the oil dipstick, the level was just above the upper mark. Also, I think the oil smelled quite much like gasoline.
Otherwise the engine runs perfectly.
I already took the engine to a dealer to be checked under warranty. They changed a new oil pressure sensor and changed the oil. After taking the boat back to the water, I have run the engine for maybe 30 minutes and boom: the same problem is back. Continuous sound and light on after lowering the throttle from high rpms. The oil level on the dipstick is again over the upper mark, even though the correct amount of oil was just put in by the dealer.
What on earth could be the issue? I have noticed that others on the forum have had similar issues over the years. Is it just some faulty sensor or could there be a bigger problem with the engine? Feeling quite bummed right now, I thought Tohatsu outboards would be reliable.
