[h=1]Having shifting problem with motor, so yesterday I took lower unit apart and inspected gears and ratchet and internal parts. All looked in good order. Reassembled. This unit shifts by a rotating shaft. With shift cables on top disconnected I can easily shift from reverse to neutral to forward by pulling/pushing the linkage by hand. In order to manually do this the pin (where the shift cable connects) has to move about 3 1/2 inches. The problem I am having is that the shift cable from the controls only moves about 3 inches (Throw). When the cable is connected is does not travel far enough to get the motor cleanly into both forward and reverse. Depending on how I adjust it I can only get forward (with reverse clicking), or reverse (with forward clicking). I opened up the controls and didn't see any way to adjust the throw on the cable. I now have lots of hours in with no fix in site. Any thoughts/recommendations?[/h]

Cable worn thru the inner case? Replace the cable? My 115 hp wouldn't shift worth a crap into reverse last week. I found the cable was not tight on the shift arm stud on the engine which allowed the cable end to ride upward on the mounting stud. Tightened it and works fine.

I have the same problem. The actual shift lever has a 2 piece assembly that is adjustableattached to it. It is not painted like the rest of the motor. I'm wondering if this was an attempt to fix the "throw " problem. Crappie are ready and I'm not, thanks OMC!
