New to me reclaimed 1GM10. Advice?

I have a new to me 23 foot sailboat with a 1GM10. Engine was rebuilt from a scrapyard in 2022 and installed on the sailboat. I will attach pictures when I am able. I am very new to the marine diesel game and would like to get ahead of the bound to happen issues.

What has worked for everyone for service time intervals? Looking to get a good baseline for maintenance cycles that I can keep up with.

What are the most common fail points of these engines?

I know the man who installed it was a good maintainer and cared for it. How do I cover my bases because nothing is guaranteed from the past?

Importantly, there is decent surface corrosion to some components. I do not necessarily want to go pulling things off and refinishing them, but would not like to be stranded either. Is this a major issue or a tackle as I get the chance deal?

Again appreciate any and all advice, thank you all in advance for your time and expertise.

Oil and filter even season, Racor and on-engine fuel filter as well. Impeller every 2-3yr, thermostat too. Doing all of these would be a good baseline to start from. All points of failure on this engine will be those that come in contact with salt water, keep an eye on the thermostat housing, exhaust.
Corrosion-X is good for surface stuff, especially anything green and growing.
Make sure the belt is properly tightened, not about to fall off but not too tight
Check the air-horn if you have a decaying engine box or insulation
Keep an eye on the dipstick for any milk showing up.
It is a raw-water cooled engine, give it a good flush with fresh water and salt-away every season if you take it out of the water, or do it in the water.
