1998 Silverton 372 454XL TB Fuel Cut

I'm having issues with a fuel cut on one engine after running for 1-1.5 hours. Turn it off for 30 minutes and it fires back up again and runs as it should.

I believed it to be part#98220. However when I went to change the fuel cutoff sensor it is nowhere to be found.

Instead both engines have the old style oil pressure sensor and warning brake pressure type switch for the alarm.

Engine S/N is 102332 Model TB454LH so everything I am reading says that the sensor #98220 should exist. Was this phased out when they added ECU’s?

I don't remember how many post are needed before you can post. When you can there will be "attach files" button in bottom left corner
And they can't be to large

I don't think there is a "time or number of posts" a member has up before photos can be added to a post..............

You probably know all the info posted below but for those do not........here is info*******************

As a side note......I had a similar problem with a crusader 350 and it turned out to be the ANTI SYPHON VALVE at the fuel tank outlet......another fellow found out that crud from the bottom of the tank slowly closed the pickup tube in the fuel tank...crud would settle after awhile and engine would restart ........and a short time later engine quit.

*****************The Crusader 98220 is an OEM marine fuel shut-off switch (oil pressure switch) designed for Crusader 454 XL Gen V carbureted engines (after S/N 89382). It ensures safety by cutting power to the fuel pump if oil pressure is lost, and allows operation only during cranking or when adequate pressure is present.

Key Details & Specifications
  • Part Number: 98220 (Crusader/PleasureCraft Marine)
  • Function: Controls fuel pump operation based on oil pressure.
  • Application: Primarily used on 454 XL Gen V carbureted marine engines.
  • Location: Often found on the side of the engine block near the alternator, connected to the wiring harness for the sending unit/alarm.
  • Appearance: Typical 3-wire connector (often purple, yellow/red wires).

Common Issues
  • Engine Shuts Down/Won't Start: If the engine cranks but won't start, the switch might be faulty, cutting fuel pump power prematurely.
  • Troubleshooting: Requires checking for continuity across the switch to determine if it is stuck open, failing to allow power to the fuel pump.

Where to Buy/Price
  • Wholesale Marine or Palmer Power offer this part for approximately $161.78.
  • It is also available on eBay through various marine suppliers.

Compatibility Note: This switch is intended specifically for Crusader carbureted engines after specific serial numbers and acts as an oil pressure-dependent safety system rather than a standard automotive inertia impact switch.

Wanted to provide an update. I’ve changed the fuel pump, filters, oil pressure sensor and the shutoff valve. Issue is the same at the same time.

Going to replace the siphon valve and see if that is it.

Does the fuel pump stop running or does the engine just die from lack of fuel after the 60-90 minute run time?

independent fuel tank for each engine or one shared tank?
