mercruiser alpha gen 2 transom gasket- glue or no glue?

im replacing the gimbal assy on a boat and i used bellows adhesive to hold the gasket into the groove of the gimbal housing but should i also be adding glue to the seal when it is installed against the transom?
i looked in the manual and it does not specify any sealant/glue but i would like to see what real world issues have come about

normally when you see sealant on the transom its a dead giveaway the transom is rotten and leaking and someone gooobered it up. You also want it to come off if you ever need it to come apart

What groove, the one for the water passage at the lower left of the large hole where the shaft passes through? Yes, but that's just to keep it in place until the assembly has been tightened.

Perfect seal, Permatex/Napa gasket cement, etc are the same- smells, feels & dries the same and can be removed using denatured Alcohol.

If you don't use cement on the o-ring (most of the ones I have seen in gasket kits have been orange, but it could be black), it can fall out without you noticing. I was working at a dealer when one of the others started freaking out because water was squirting out of the shift cable housing at the engine and he couldn't understand why. I mentioned the O-ring and he seemed to have forgotten that he removed one.

He is talking about the big foam gasket that seals the transom plate to the transom. No sealant is necessary.
