2008 BF225 Lower Unit HELP!!!

So my lower unit went out. Had a gear loose a tooth.. anyways it’s a 2008 225 30” shaft and I have a hard time finding that year used to replace. Shops say the forward gears are discontinued as well so they suggest me to find a used unit or buy new. I would like to exhaust other avenues before buying new.

To my understanding there is different size shift shaft splines in the older models. Fat/skinny

I did find a 2002 30” and the big question is can I switch the shift shaft off my unit into the 2002 unit. Will it fit? TIA

Go to boats.net, find the part your wanting to replace, select the part and scroll down to the bottom of the page and you’ll find a list of models that share the part.
 
Parts are definitely available, you will need to find a competent repairer to rebuild the gearcase if you don't have the necessary special tools
