BF130 water pump replacement

I purchased a new water pump via amazon and the impellor did not have a metal ID bushing with the keyway like the existing one (which looked fine 2 years old) The new one was solid rubber. My concern is the rubber ID not being strong enough to support the key. Has anyone had issues with the all rubber style water pumps?

Hi,
I haven't worked on one of these so wondering if you're saying that there is a metal bushing pre-molded into your old impeller or is there a loose or "extra part" that slips over the shaft and into the impeller?

The Honda parts description doesn't list a loose bushing but the illustration isn't detailed enough to show if there is one molded into the rubber.
Item 1 in link below.

I ask because on the smaller outboards I've worked on, none have a bushing for the drive key but I realize the forces are much greater on the bigger motors.

I thought you might want this link anyway in case you're stuck and need to order a Honda part.

If that's the case, Amazon's usually pretty easy to return something if you haven't opened the package or installed the part.

Good luck.

If I remember correctly on my BF130 Year 1999, the impeller was rubber and the inner part was a whitish hard plastic sleeve.
There were never metal parts on the impeller ant they were original parts.

Jimbo,

Are you sure you got the correct replacement impeller? The reputable aftermarket companies like Sierra generally match the OEM design with details like that. What year is your Honda? What part number did you get? See Sierra Application Guide.

Thanks.

Buy the Honda part from Honda , get the full kit, not just the impeller. I did just the Honda impeller and then needed the rest of the kit. These Honda water pumps seem to need a really precise part, I’ve used Sierra or similar on mercury and Evinrude, they worked fine with just changing out the rubber impeller, but not the Honda.
