1993 Evinrude 115 V4 Control Box

I've done all the work on my boat except for anything with the motor. I have a pretty good mechanic that is fairly reasonable and very knowledgeable about the older motors. I had him replace the red trigger on the control box last spring. He recommended switching to an outer mount control box. He has multiple oem options on hand or said I could purchase an aftermarket one. Since he is in a different town and I'd need to leave it there for a few days, I was wondering how hard this project is to complete? And if I ordered an aftermarket one, how do I determine which one to get? There are so many options not sure which is the right one?
