    2004 50hp Elpto Mercury melted wiring

    I was traveling down river and stopped , reversed but when I started forward again the outboard stopped. Smoke was rolling from under the cowl. After removing cowl I have wires melted. going to stator, regulator ,the main harness is also toast as the upper part melted. what caused all this...
