    Just wondering if anyone here’s installed any kind of remote boat monitoring setup. Mainly interested in bilge pump alerts and battery voltage when I’m off the boat. Would prefer something cellular-based (not Wi-Fi), ideally something that doesn’t require a full NMEA backbone. Open to DIY ideas...

    Very weak spark 8 HP Yamaha

    Weak spark on both cylinders usually points to a failing charge coil or CDI. Since both are affected and compression is good, I'd lean toward electrical, not mechanical.

    If you're unsure, always double-check with a parts diagram or factory manual — jets affect performance a lot, especially on older 2-strokes like yours.

    Gear shift cable (Old Type)

    You might have better luck looking for the cable by part number if you have it. Some of the aftermarket kits allow you to reuse the old set-screw fittings if you’re careful during removal.

    Classic symptoms of a lean idle circuit. Probably a dirty or partially clogged carb. Try pulling and cleaning the low-speed jets. Ethanol fuel doesn’t help either.
