    1957/1958 Mercury 6hp Lower Unit Removal

    I have a 1957/1958 Mercury Comet Silent Six outboard. I want to remove the lower unit to install a new water pump impeller. There is a shift cable that runs from the engine down through a tube that controls the neutral/forward gears. How does that disconnect so the lower unit can be removed? Thanks

    Exhaust gasket question

    I had to replace a shift handle on my 1962 Johnson 5.5 hp outboard. I am replacing the exhaust/water jacket gasket and want to know if I should use a high temperature gasket sealant along with the new gasket? Thanks
