    new to boats 1960 80 hp 800 merc

    i have a 1960/61 merc 800e motor runs good prop is good but i put it in water and it hardly goes anywhere i put the throttle on high and all it does is scream but hardly goes any where i have changed the oil but still.How hard is it to redo the gears in the lower unit thanks
