    Steering link nyloc nut

Just did a periodic clean and lube on my teleflex cable and tilt tube. I believe the manual calls for a *low profile* nyloc nut, why is this so? Am I able to use the regular thickness nut that I have? (10 low profiles are coming in the mail)

How compatible will the parts be between a 1978 and and a 1980 Johnson 25?

1989 Johnson 70 Spark Plug Type

As an aside, I made a muffler to lessen the annoyance to my neighbours. Seems to create good back pressure and idles well. Will using this end badly?

1989 Johnson 70 Spark Plug Type

Hi, replacing my plugs as preventative maintenance. (J70TLCEM) Marineengine states plug type is Champion QL77JC4. Current plugs are NGK BR8HS. Haven't noticed any issues, ordered another set of the same. Any thoughts as to the suitability of these plugs? Cheers.

    1989/1990 Johnson 70 Parts Interchangability

I'm running a 1989 70 on my boat at the moment, and bought a 1990 for spare parts. I've already used the head which was a direct part number match. How much can I swap parts between these two motors? Also, I just ordered a factory service manual #507756 which I believe covers my 1989. Is it...

    Johnson 1989 70HP Head Gasket

I made up a little thread chaser. I lubed up the block threads and spun it in every hole by hand with no resistance, and all the gunk came out nicely. I was thinking about applying the anti seize to the chaser and running it in and out of each hole to coat the insides thinly and evenly...

    Johnson 1989 70HP Head Gasket

This photo was taken before I started cleaning the cooling passages. I may have poked around and cleared a little of it.

    Johnson 1989 70HP Head Gasket

The mark on the piston is aligned about 2/3 of the way up the the visible intake port. There is no corresponding damage in the bore. The same goes for the other cylinders, and the facing top edge of all 3 cylinder sleeves are flat and without damage. I purchased the motor second hand. My...

    Johnson 1989 70HP Head Gasket

Ok, I've received the new gaskets. I've been doing some final clean up in the jackets and mating surfaces and their is a fair amount of pitting. In this first image the pitting can be seen on the aluminium around the bore in the top right. The aluminium is worn to the point I can catch my...

    Johnson 1989 70HP Head Gasket

Hi everyone, I'm about to install a new head gasket on my outboard. The one I just removed was the type with several small holes in between the bolt holes. The one I removed from my donor/parts motor did not have this. It seems to be a design flaw to have the holes, as they allow water to...
