    Clunk when shifting into F or R except when...

    My starboard gear has a clunk...(about like the loudness of a big outboard going in to gear ) when I shift it normally. However, if I ease the control slowly from N to Fwd or Rev, it's as quiet as normal. Any ideas? I have the gear out right now since I'm installing a new long block on that side...

    Normal acceptable compression numbers '86 270 hp

    Gents, I am new today. Have searched this question but haven't seen a clear answer. Would like to know what acceptable range is and also, what is the procedure, ie, warm engine, cold engine, throttle position on a carbed engine?
