Learned my lesson on aftermarket parts. Fuel pump was fine but gaskets on the carb rebuild kit had partially disintegrated leaving the fuel in bowl looking dark. Bought replacement gaskets on here and I think my problem will be solved.
Yep and I won't again but am on a bit of a tight budget so $20 seemed like worth a try but won't again if it is the issue.

This is a new boat to me. 1989 Lund with the original 1988 Johnson on it. It was running OK before the swap out and carb rebuild so wondering where I went wrong
I swapped out the VRO which had been disconnected but was still using the fuel pump for a after market fuel pump I bought on Amazon. Plugged the old impulse port and attached the new fuel pump to the one higher on the block per the instructions.
Replaced fuel pump and rebuilt carburetors. Can choke it to start and runs for 5 to 10 seconds and then quits. Tried pumping the bulb repeatedly while running and got a little longer run of maybe 20 seconds before dying. Desperate to get out on the lake before season is over please help with...
