It’s been a while since I posted on this problem. If I run my engine at high speed for 5 to 10 min and return to the dock at idle taking another 10 min, then turn off the engine and wait one min, it won’t start and I can’t hear the high pressure fuel pump run. If I let it sit for 30 min or so...
I never did trim the grommet/insulator. I had the boat out yesterday and had trouble starting it after extended idling. The grommet/insulator on mine is sealed off at the end facing away from the motor. If I trim it there will be a hole through it.
Does anyone know what this part does? Honda...
If your HP filter is really dirty, I strongly recommend that you pull the VST apart and check it for contamination. Also check the HP fuel pump for rust. There are good YouTube videos on how to do this.
I have heard that Honda has a service bulletin about this but have not been able to see what it says. If the grommet could be 3 or 4 mm shorter, and still function properly, that Honda would have changed it. Perhaps they have a batch that were made from the wrong material. I installed a new...
I tried flushing the engine with the hose connection instead of running it with muffs. It’s seems better as I was unable to make it fail when I took it out. I usually don’t flush it if I am in fresh water and just back it down the freshwater ramp and run it after going in salt. The hose produces...
After replacing the grommet and flushing out the cooling system I’ve almost eliminated the problem. Now if I run it for a while followed by a long idle and shut it off for 3 to 5 minutes it is hard to start. After waiting another 5 mins it starts just fine. I suspect the problem will return as...
I have this issue with my 2014 Tohatsu 90 which is just a black Honda. I recently replaced the grommet (actually named insulator) and still have the problem but it is harder to make it fail. Now it doesn’t stall but if I shut it off after a long idle and let it sit for 5 minutes, it won’t start...
