    Late 80's Mercury 9.9 Serial Number

    Sorry if this is a dumb question but I know absolutely nothing about outboard motors. My question is where is the serial number located? The plate on the side is long gone and someone told him there was a place on the engine where it was located as well. Thanks for any info in advance! Brian
