Default Mercury SmartCraft - Another "Engine Lost Com" - but different?

I never did. Still wonky. Been using the smartlink product and it's working, so seems my CAN Network is still functioning. Probably the gauges...

9.9 Kicker sounds loud and clangy after quick fwd to rev shift

@faztbullet That prop is super not new. :) It's pitted and looks like somebody painted it silver. Also, I didn't mean to say that it was in both forward and reverse at the same time. I could have said that better. I just mean that the linkage at the motor/tiller handle was adjusted so that...

9.9 Kicker sounds loud and clangy after quick fwd to rev shift

I'll try to get a better pic of the pinion here in 30 min or so. The teeth are shiny, but I didn't see any chips.

9.9 Kicker sounds loud and clangy after quick fwd to rev shift

Weird, I thought I already had posted the splines... Here they are. The kicker went from sounding normal to sounding loud while on the hose. In my mind it seem more doable to bend splines while on the hose because the water acts as a brake, stopping the prop before going into the opposing...

9.9 Kicker sounds loud and clangy after quick fwd to rev shift

I'm not seeing any more damage inside the lower unit. My guess as to what the clangy noise was, is that when the splines bent in the crankshaft/driveshaft splines, it pushed the driveshaft down. Causing a loud meshing of the pinion/ring gears. Thanks for all of the people who helped with...

9.9 Kicker sounds loud and clangy after quick fwd to rev shift

I pulled the lower unit and found something quite undesirable. See attachment. I've begun opening the gearbox to see if there's any more damage inside. So far, with the gears/clutch/dogs that slide out there's been no obvious damage and all shafts appear straight. Haven't found any chunks...

9.9 Kicker sounds loud and clangy after quick fwd to rev shift

    It's a 2009 Mercury 9.9 pro kicker. Fyi.

9.9 Kicker sounds loud and clangy after quick fwd to rev shift

Just as the title says. I shifted from forward to reverse at just above idle. I was starting my motor for the first time the season and for some reason the shifting linkage was adjusted wrong somehow and it didn't give me any neutral ability. Went from forward immediately to reverse. Not sure...

Default Mercury SmartCraft - Another "Engine Lost Com" - but different?

There's a small chance I have installed the gauges backward. ie, tacho on the speedo cable and speedo on the tacho cable. Would this destroy the gauges or other components? Perhaps it's just the gauges?

Default Mercury SmartCraft - Another "Engine Lost Com" - but different?

I've tested the terminating resistors according to another post and they all read 120ohms for a total of 60ohm circuit load. I've verified power and grounds. Boat was somewhat recently rewired so all of that is basically new. (and yes, this has all worked since the wiring job). I am going...

Default Mercury SmartCraft - Another "Engine Lost Com" - but different?

Hey everybody. I've read through dozens of SmartCraft issue posts about the "Engine Lost Com" error. My motor: 2007 Mercury Optimax 175 (SN: 1B480255). Everything has been great up to the last ride. Suddenly, the tach went dead, nothing on it. Not responsive to buttons. The speed gauge showed...
