    76 55 hp Evinrude, hard to start but stays running smooth until I try to shift, then dies but restar

    engine is hard to start (unless I use starter fluid) but once started stays running and seems to idle smoothly. But when I shift into forward or reverse, engine dies unless I shift very quickly. Took to river this weekend, ran well at all speeds but for the shifting into gear/dying issues...
