    1990 Mariner Magnum 40hp, can't get the lower unit to detach

    I took off the bolt underneath the lower unit fins. There were two bolts wedged into the top of the upper unit holding the lower unit on which are loosened. I can't get the lower unit to come off. Additionally, I don't see the linkage for the gear shifter anywhere to disconnect it. Can you help?
