    1960 Johnson 40 HP, recommended fuel octane and fuel mixture

    Just finished refurbishing everything in the motor and lower unit and am ready to fire it up. To make sure, what is the recommended fuel mixture, I believe it is 24:1. Also what octane fuel should be used, high test, or regular? Thanks for your advice.

    I am working on the lower unit of a 1960 Johnson 40 HP. After taking the prop shaft and all gears, etc., I pulled the pinion gear out per the service manual.
