    How do I check ohms on a stator

    I have a 1986 merc 4cylinder without spark. Should I disconnect one lead from the switch box before touching the wires or can they stay connected? When one lead is disconnected I have an open circuit.I am referring to the blue and blue/white leads. I appreciate any advice.
