    I inspected the water port and it appears to all be intact. Just to be clear, the area in the below photo marked with red arrows is supposed to be open like that between the shift rod and drive shaft? Thanks

It's in pretty rough shape so I decided to tear it apart and rebuild the lower unit as it had barely any oil in it due to a small pin hole in the lower unit...
